English-Czech grammar school Amazon is a grammar school oriented towards the teaching of modern European and world-wide languages with an emphasis on certified native English speakers. The presence of certificated native speakers in the classroom teaching foreign languages both motivates the students and brings results.
Lessons are taught in English, which brings you an intimate contact with the target language. For beginners and slightly more advanced speakers, Czech language grammar lessons are offered. During freshmen year, the curriculum is focused mainly on expanding language knowledge and skills. In the following years, the number of subjects taught in English increases. Students can focus on translation and interpretation from English to Czech language, which is one of the optional subjects in our language program. Further specialized subjects are taught from the third year.

Language lessons are based on the directives set by The Council of Europe's Framework of Languages. We intensively involve all of four language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening, which prepares students to pass internationally recognized language exams (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS, and TOEFL). Thanks to The Council of Europe, we celebrate the European day of Languages every year on September 26th.
Students are divided into study groups according to their English ability, which is based on their results from the initial testing. Beginners will only sign up for a study group.

Upon completion of your 4 school years at Amazon you will have fluent speech with wide/large vocabulary, listening and understanding skills and an excellent knowledge of grammar and writing, supported by the learning of foreign cultures, business English and many others.
Since induction in 1. 9. 2008, our lessons are taught according to our own School Curriculum „Worldwide Education“ which comes from the general School Curriculum for grammar school education. Teaching in harmony with RVP appointed educational areas, belonging to the domains and their time allocations for every grade. One of the AMAZON areas of focus on foreign languages is a branch called „Language and Communication“. Student's ability in English and other foreign languages is significantly improved. Basic lessons of earth sciences are provided in the building of our school, with the help of modern educational features (plasma TVs, interactive whiteboards, etc.) Our school houses collections natural science artifacts as well as objects of general interest. Furthermore, experimental education work is done in specialized work-places, such as the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University and the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague. Students participate in field-trips for earth sciences and lectures at the work places of the Academy of Sciences in the Czech Republic and other institutions, (e.g. the Globe program). The goal of studying is to gain academic education with excellent knowledge of foreign languages, acquired by practical use of communication and information technology. Throughout the 4 years at AMAZON, our students will acquire key competencies, like presenting sets of knowledge, strong values and positive attitudes, which are important for personal growth, social skills and future living.
